Visited Subaru dealership as directed by the insurer’s customer services team in order to get a quotation to remedy the defects introduced by the insurer’s repairer. No immediate solution could be identified due to the prior actions of the insurer’s repairer. Further investigation by the Subaru dealership will be needed.

Spurious outputs from reverse parking assist system installed by insurer’s repairer when driving FORWARDS. Occurred on two stretches during a journey. Malfunction lasted for approximately 3 minutes each time.
BS 10125 is the British standard that sets out the requirements for a management system for the safe repair of accident damaged vehicles. It is aimed at vehicle repairers and sets out requirements for competent personnel, appropriate and well-maintained equipment, suitable repair methods and quality for repair materials and parts.

It is possible for accredited certification bodies to award certificates of conformance with BS 10125 to repairers that meet the requirements of the standard. Certification bodies are accredited by UKAS and currently include BSi Assurance UK (issuers of the ‘Kitemark’) and RMISC (issuers of the ‘Ri-Mark’).
EC Type Approval and Other Considerations
Obviously, tow bars are safety-related components.
In the UK, all light passenger vehicles registered on or after 1st August 1998 fitted with a tow bar require an EC type-approved tow bar tested to EC94/20 with a suitable tow ball. When fitting a tow bar it is important to check that it is EC type-approved and has also been confirmed by the tow bar manufacturer as suitable for the intended vehicle.
Variations in specification between cars in a car manufacturer’s range can mean that while a particular tow bar may be suitable for one vehicle in the range it can be unsuitable for others. This can be due to differing suspension heights, body shapes or other factors. For example, the tow bar manufacturer Witter offers a wide range of EC type-approved tow bars for various models in the Subaru Legacy range. However, the Witter website currently does not offer tow bars for Subaru Legacy estate cars from between 2003 and 2010 with an ‘R’ specification.
Fitting a non type-approved tow bar to a light passenger vehicle registered on or after 1st August 1998 is an illegal act regardless of whether the tow bar is ever used for towing. It could result in prosecution and, in the event of an accident, the vehicle’s insurance could be invalidated.
